Wazzup sista?

I'm in the midst of:

1) Looking for & trying to place a recipe book order online;
~ Have checked at my favourite bookstore & the very friendly assistant have advised me to order online as it'll be cheaper, since they do not have 'that' book ; ).

2) Contemplating on whether I should stay on in my current full-time career;
~ This thought seems to be playin' in my mind; at least until I finally make a decision (ain't that right?). Which is not very easy to do considering I've been doing what I'm doing for far too long. *Continue contemplating*

3) Set up a 'proposal' & checking with myself if I can actually do / handle it if it goes through;
~ Had been very (very) excited when it was first mentioned to me. I didn't think about it until a friend suggested it. Although I was grateful, I'm not sure if I can do this - all by myself. But if it's God's will, I'm sure I'll be fine.

4) Planning promotions for sistabrownie's Cookies & Such for the upcoming Hari Raya in September;
~ This is one way for me to say "Thank You" to all my supporters. I'm giving great discounts, free gift & free delivery (*terms apply) to the people who have known me since I started out. Email me: sistabrownie@gmail.com to find out more!

5) Full of anxiety
~ Let the words speak for itself : D

It's a great Saturday peeps; full of shine. May you continue to enjoy the great weekend.

'Til my next update next week!

Churros

Now how or why did I end up frying Churros in my kitchen....?

It all started when I ended up watching a new cable TV show, which had recently become one of my favourite channels (alongside Universal & WarnerTV) : )) It showcases all the different snacks available in the US from sweet treats to what-have-you under the sun.

In one of the episodes, Churros came up. And I suddenly remembered that I've kept this recipe for a while without having tried it yet, although it is an easy recipe.

So here it is. Coincidentally a friend asked for the recipe too, when I uploaded a picture of it in my FB.

Churros

1 cup plain flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp salt
2 tsp caster sugar
1 cup water
1 tblsp vegetable oil (I use canola)

Enough cooking oil for frying
Caster sugar or Cinnamon sugar for tossing fried Churros

1) Sift flour, baking powder & salt into a mixing bowl. Add the caster sugar.

2) In a heavy-based pan boil water & vegetable oil.

3) Once the liquid is boiling pour in the flour mixture into the pan & mix vigorously with a wooden spoon until the mixture comes together into a ball. The dough should leave the sides of the pan.

4) Let dough cool for a while before transferring it into a piping bag or a cookie press.

5) Heat oil in the frying pan. Press the dough into the frying pan & cut according to your desired length. ( Another way to do this is to pipe the dough in spiral motion. You can cut them in the desired length after you remove from the pan & drain it).

6) Fry until golden brown & remove from pan. Drain.

7) Toss them in caster sugar or cinnamon sugar & serve hot.

P.S: Alternatively you may like to melt some chocolates & dip the churros for serving.

Turtle Pie

Part two from my previous entry, when I announced that there will be another pie coming up, I managed to make just that today. It's the Turtle Pie.

It's an all-chilled pie, different from my other pies which are baked pastries. So I really find this refreshing. What better way to enjoy this with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream on a hot afternoon. Mmmm.... Yum!

Now if you're asking why this is called Turtle, I don't have the answer. But I think it is what it is because there are 2 layers of chocolate in the pie - chocolate cream, and the top layer acts as a shell to cover the whole pie. Well don't quote me as this is just my version ; p.

Now that my two pies have been accomplished, I'm excited to try just one more - another chocolate pie which is baked instead.

Will post an update when it's done.

For the fund-raising

I just came back from the fund-raising event at a local school today. It was my first time attending it and I was initially apprehensive at how the response would be. Well as it turned out, it was really good!

Within 3hrs, the food, which were contributed by the students' parents & relatives or maybe even friends, were fast gone. I didn't even get to purchase the Penang Laksa & Otah. And within those 3hrs too, I noticed that my goodies were being snapped as well.

So for this event, I prepared about 60pcs Chocolate cuppies, which I divided the icing between Chocolate Fudge & Snow Frost, and packed them in twos.

There were also packs of Brownie, which were cut into 6 minis per pack. I drizzled them with chocolate & simple colour decos for contrast. I contemplated on spreading chocolate fudge on top of the brownie, as I was unsure if that many people would have liked it that way. With chocolate drizzle, it was always safe as the overall chocolatey taste would not be too overwhelming.

It was a really fun event. I enjoyed doin' up my simple & humble goodies for this great event, although it took me almost the whole day preparing everything by myself. It was satisfying indeed.

Looking forward to the same event next year!
